Review of Burnbrae Holiday cottages

We really enjoyed our week at Burnbrae and appreciate the things like the welcome tray, the excellent wood- burner with wood supplied, the sunny conservatory and the good quality towels etc! Being keen recyclers and compost makers ourselves its been great to stay somewhere the residents are as keen as us! We’ve had some lovely walks, including to St Abb’s Head and from Kirk Yetholm up into the Cheviots and have also enjoyed exploring Kelso, Melrose and a few hours in Edinburgh using the train from Tweedbank. We think the Borders area is lovely and well worth exploring.

Always a great welcome and we are made to feel right at home. It’s warm, comfortable and quiet with a good degree of privacy if you want it. The conservatory provides great views over the fields and as far as the Cheviots on a good day. A grand place to watch the weather. The sun warms the conservatory, which is in keeping with Burnbrae’s Green ethos. On a wet day the French doors open and the heat from the living room will warm the area if needed. The light is always good in there…perfect for stitching, reading or sketching. Comfy beds, a log fire and now, excellent wifi. We will be there again next year…if not before.

We have stayed in over twenty self-catering cottages since 2001, and this was the one where we were made to feel most welcome. Yvette is an excellent hostess, and she really takes an interest in her guests. The cottage was clean and welcoming, and we were very happy there. The area has plenty to offer, and certainly found plenty to do and see, including a trip to Edinburgh on the Borders Railway which is most worthwhile. We don’t normally return to the same cottage because we like to ring the changes in the area we choose. That said, we would definitely consider returning to Burnbrae because Yvette believes in maintaining communication with her guests and we had a lovely email from her on our return home. Perfect.

Burnbrae is probably the most welcoming of any we have stayed in. ~ The equipment is all in good/ excellent condition and there are no obvious omissions in what is provided.~ A wonderful place to stay.

We just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our visit to Thairn cottage and the Borders area last week. The cottage was very comfortable and such a good size for 2 people. It was helpful having the covered parking for the motorcycle as well.

Thairn cottage has an extra long king sized bed. Wonderful views over cottage garden.

We’ve enjoyed staying at Burnbrae very much and we were delighted that one of the cottages (Begrum) allows dogs. Thankyou for the ‘welcome’ tray of afternoon tea – the scones and jam were delicious – a lovely touch. The cottage is well designed to give plenty of ‘practical’ space i.e. for coats/ boots et. Its such a comfortable feel – so relaxing to sit in the conservatory and have breakfast looking out to the garden and fields. It’s even so cosy that we didn’t even light the log burner – even although we love them!

Welcome tray at Burnbrae Holiday cottage. Fresh homemade scones, butter and jam with a selection of teas and coffees.

Cottage clean and tidy, nice little touches all taken care offor us. Even took my home delivery of food in and put it in the fridge. All round a wonderfully relaxing holiday.

The accommodation is much larger than expected – especially the bedroom which has loads of built in storage giving good circulation space. It is cleaned to high standard and has been very nicely decorated and maintained. Towels and the bedding are good quality and the bathroom is nicely appointed with a really good over the bath shower and plenty of hot water. The central heating system is really efficient and kept the cottage nice and warm. The conservatory is a real bonus and leads out to a nice area in which to sit when the weather permits. Crockery, glasses, pots and pans and the kitchen utensils were ‘as new’. The landscaping and gardens to the front and rear are beautifully planted and well maintained. All in all we have no adverse comments to make and fully recommend the cottage to anyone looking for good quality accommodation.

The conservatory a lovely relaxing place to sit. First time we have had sunloungers at self catering things to do in the area. This is one of the best places we have stayed at . Thankyou.

We were delighted to discover how many places of interest were within an easy drive of Burnbrae and welcomed the information on these provided in the cottage. We would love to come back & would have no hesitation in recommending Burnbrae Holidays to family and friends.

Sincerely our stay at Thairn cottage has been idyllic. Our every need has been anticipated and provided for. We very much appreciated the superior quality of furnishings and fittings, crockery and cooking utensils. The cottage conservatory looking out onto its mature garden is delightful to sit in, the birds at the bird feeders providing endless amusement & entertainment.

Many birds on a bird feeder at Burnbrae Holidays

A poem was written by a guest as she departed from Burnbrae.

I came along to Scotland two weeks ago today

And Mungo’s Well at Burnbrae was the place that I did stay

Yvette works hard, she makes you feel at home

with jam and tea and scones, a wood burning fire

and maps and information to help you plan your days

you can even do an art workshop in the studio down the block.

For many an hour I could sit and look out

at the fields and the trees in their Autumn shades

and watching tiny birds as they go about their day

singing and picking as they moved through the trees that swayed

And the sky a glance of heaven above as the

clouds moved and twisted to form pictures of horses, clowns and bubbles and dogs and baby faces that disappeared so suddenly leaving no traces.

Until the darkness comes bringing night time in

with a light show of stars so brilliant and bright

you can almost see past Mars and the Milkyway

because there’s no light pollution to get in the way.

The flowers in the garden are beautiful to be hold

Yvette cares for them one and all so I have been told

From Holly trees to Fuscia, Daffodils and Roses all

carefully tended by Yvette’s own hands

And not just to be pretty but for wildlife to visit

with Honey bees, butterflies, squirrels, hedgehogs and foxes

some pheasants along the way

All taking time at Burnbrae to spend many happy days.

So next time I’m in Scotland whenever that might be

I’ll find the road that leads to Burnbrae

Its the perfect place for me
